In the beginning, what drew me to Kept In Ink was the title. Because generally, inking is considered a relatively permanent way to commemorate or remember something. An event/ experience/ occurrence needs to be pretty significant to be ink-ed (on paper, skin, etc.). Hence, I gathered it must be an account worth reading.
I have always been drawn to stories about overcoming challenges life throws at you. Although the end goal matters, the journey towards the goal also plays a significant role. Kept In Ink is a story that offers precisely that and a little more. It's also a story about friendships across different cultures and languages.
As I read the book, I found that one of the differentiating factors is the little footnotes at the bottom of the page, which explains any unfamiliar references. I thought this was rather clever, as it saves me time on Googling what it means. Another part of the book which I found interesting is the artwork. The author included drawings instead of only photographs, which I thought was quite unusual and refreshing.
If you are someone who enjoys a a good story about the life journey's and its passion, then Kept In Ink would be a story you will definitely appreciate.
